Ford Motor Company (FMC) and its Ford Performance department announce their return to the top Hypercar category of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the main event of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). In 2027, the American automaker will return to Sarthe, participating in all the rounds of the FIA WEC, with an LMDh.
Ford at the 24 Hours of Le Mans takes us back to the 1966 triple victory of the GT40, followed by three more titles won in 1967, 1968, and 1969, always in the overall classification of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 2024, the Mustang GT3 shone in its category, finishing 3rd in the world’s most beautiful race. Let’s also remember that Ford won, this time with the GT, the LM GTE Pro category in 2016, before withdrawing at the end of the 2019 season.
2027 will mark the return of the brand with the blue oval in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), knowing that, from 2026, it will also be in Formula 1, as a technical partner for the development of the Red Bull Racing Power Unit, via Red Bull Powertrains – Ford.
Ford has thus chosen an LMDh for 2027 and its return to Le Mans. However, no information has been released about the chassis that will be used, nor logically about the drivers. Following this announcement, the ACO did not fail to recall the epic Ford at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Bill Ford (Executive Chairman of FMC) spoke about Ford‘s arrival in 2027 at Le Mans in Hypercar, perhaps for another historic duel for victory against Ferrari:
“At Ford, we are entering a new era of performance and competition. This is reflected in our innovations, both on-road and off-road. When we compete, it’s to win. And no race is more iconic in our history than Le Mans. This is where we challenged Ferrari and triumphed in the 1960s. And it’s where we returned 50 years later to once again surprise the world by beating Ferrari. I am thrilled that we are returning to Le Mans to compete in the top category. We are ready to take on this challenge, and as we say, ‘Go Like Hell.'”
Finally, this year, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the flagship round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), will take place on June 14 and 15, 2025.
