A few days ago, specifically on January 22, the media outlet Autocar announced the return of the Citroën 2CV in a new 100% electric version. This new version could have represented a logical response to the competition, mainly represented by the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, Renault 4 E-Tech electric, and the future Renault Twingo E-Tech electric with their “extended electric” names. Following this announcement, Thierry Koskas (General Director of the Citroën brand – Sales and Marketing Director of Stellantis) refuted the information published by Autocar, this being done with Auto Express. However, the retrofitting solution remains.
The project to market a new 100% electric Citroën 2CV is therefore not at all current at Stellantis. Thierry Koskas thus “swept away” the info relayed by Autocar. Thus, Thierry Koskas declared, in the columns of Auto Express:
“We prefer to look forward. We have introduced a design language that is now quite clear and very visible in the different cars. I think we need to be recognized, and we need to look towards the future. I am not going to look back.”
This is therefore quite clear, knowing that Thierry Koskas reacted quickly, on the very same day of the publication of the Autocar article, with our colleagues at Auto Express.
It should be noted that since 2021, it has been possible to drive a 100% electric Citroën 2CV, thanks to retrofitting technology. The operation to convert the “Deudeuche” from a thermal engine to an electric engine is priced from 9,900 euros at MCC Automotive, or the Méhari Club Cassis.
Finally, on the technical side, the Citroën 2CV R-FIT 100% electric by MCC Automotive features a synchronous air-cooled electric system. Its power is almost equivalent to that of the Citroën 2CV equipped with the flat 2-cylinder 602 cm3 engine, namely 15 kW/21 hp. In terms of autonomy, the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo) battery provides 90 km (WLTP) of driving without needing to recharge. As for the full recharge, it takes about 3h30, on a standard 220 V power outlet.
