The Peugeot Quasar, the first concept-car developed and assembled by Peugeot, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, the designers at Peugeot’s Automotive Design Network (ADN) have reimagined the concept-car, presenting a more modern, albeit virtual, version.
Forty years ago, the Peugeot Quasar was the very first creation by the Peugeot design office. The Quasar symbolized the French brand’s return to business after a challenging start to the 1980s. The success of the Peugeot 205 and Citroën BXupon their launch in 1982 “saved” the PSA group to some extent. At the end of 2024, the Quasar makes a comeback. Matthias Hossann (Head of Design – Peugeot) stated that creating this new Quasar was “a recreation” for his team of automotive designers.
In terms of style, the 2024 Quasar logically retains the silhouette of the original model. However, the 2024 Quasar is much sharper in every aspect, incorporating modern visual codes favored by Peugeot, such as the three luminous claw marks at the front.
The most impressive feature is the rear of the 2024 Quasar. Very open and “beastly” like a lion, it prominently features two large exhaust outlets.
Let’s pay tribute to the 1984 Peugeot Quasar, which was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. The 1984 Quasar featured the engine of the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16. This futuristic car was the brainchild of Gérard Welter and Paul Bracq. The photos in this article show the Quasar displayed at the Musée de L’Aventure Peugeot in Sochaux.
Finally, Peugeot could have made the effort to create at least a 1:1 scale model of its “new” concept-car inspired by the historic 1984 model, although it might have been too costly. A 2024 Quasar would have looked splendid at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. However, Peugeot chose to showcase its “recycled” Inception concept-car from CES 2023 at the same recent motor show.
